SMI Consulting will be working in conjunction with Susan Freeman, an Air Force Veteran, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, readjustment counselor, and former civilian contractor for mental health services in Iraq, to produce a comprehensive continuing education course about Combat Veterans and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The course will begin in September with locations in Tampa, Orlando, and Miami with more locations TBD. Stay tuned :)

Who are YOU?
So often I ask my clients "Who are YOU?" The answers are mostly the same. "I am a mother" "I am a daughter" or "I am a manager." But these titles are not who you are.
Here is an oldie but goodie on Way Back Wednesday to meditate on, courtesy of Iylana Vanzant:
Who are YOU? Who are you without your titles, without your relationships, without your possessions? Who. Are. You.
Watch the clip. Look in the mirror. Who are YOU?

Celebrating Valentines Day With a Lecture!
There is nothing I "love" better than giving a lecture, which is why I "love" continuing education! Check out my lecture on the Female Buffalo Soldier from a psychological and sociological perspective!
You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be surprised, and you will leave it enriched! Fall in love with mental health history!

New Year, New Perspective
So many things have been said of forgiveness. One thing that is problematic are those people who believe that forgiveness means acceptance. Consider this:
Harboring anger is like YOU drinking poison and expecting
THEM to get sick.

All Gave Some, Some Gave All
On this Memorial Day weekend, we remember those who fought for the freedoms we have today. Here are a few things you can do the celebrate this holiday and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country:
1. Visit a national cemetery.
2. Thank a veteran or active duty service member when you see them (its never too late).
3. Write a letter of thanks or gratitude to a service member or veteran.
4. Send a care package to a service member.
5. Educate yourself about services available to service members and point them in the right direction when necessary.
