Learn the theoretical basis of the parentified child, interventions from a family therapy context, and practice interventions with case studies and role plays.
The purpose of this workshop is to take a deeper look at what is termed “the parentified child” within a family. This workshop will enable clinicians and those who are not clinical to identify the behaviors and misconceptions of children who have parental level power and responsibilities within a family. Often in social work the phrases “he/she is a parentified child,” “he/she is the problem child,” or “he/she is sabotaging the placement due to parentification” are used in an effort to describe a child who is perceived as a problem or troubled. You will learn the theoretical basis of the parentified child, interventions from a family therapy context, and practice interventions with case studies and role plays.

Creating Permanent Connections
Learn how to effectively identify and engage permanent connections for young people in the foster care system to successfully facilitate the transition to adulthood.
The purpose of this one day intensive-training is to learn how to effectively identify and engage permanent connections for young people in foster care. Each year, young people in the foster care system transition to adulthood. Many of these young people do not have an adequate support system into adulthood. While those who work in the child welfare system may want for all adolescents to be adopted before transition, this may not be possible. This workshop presents tools and practice opportunities for child welfare professionals to hit-the-ground-running in identifying permanent connections for transition-age youth.

Learn the essentials for working with couples and families in therapy.
It is common for mental health professionals not trained in a marriage and family therapy context to have hesitancy in providing therapeutic services for more than one person. Questions like "Who should I talk to?" and "What do I do if they start arguing?" are common concerns for those who have limited experience working with couples and families. This workshop is for those who have experience working with individuals and would like to gain skills working within a family context. This workshop will provide you with an intensive overview of the theoretical basis of the family systems perspective, learn foundational theories in Marriage and Family Therapy practice, allow you to learn interventions and techniques that are used in family therapy, and immediately practice these interventions and techniques through role plays and case studies.
